Car Access Security Risks Today

SECURITY RISKS

Modern Vehicle Access

AutoDun vehicle access

Keyless entry systems have made car access more convenient but have also introduced new security vulnerabilities, such as relay attacks. The situation in Canada has worsened over the last seven years, with Toronto alone reporting 9,606 thefts in 2022—a threefold increase from 3,284 in 2015.

According to the Canadian Financing and Leasing Association (CFLA), the annual financial impact of car theft in Canada is a staggering $1 billion. This adds an extra $48 to each insurance policy, but the human cost is even more concerning, with 40 to 65 deaths directly linked to auto theft each year.

Vehicle Theft in Canada

Armed with advanced scanning technology, thieves can now effortlessly intercept, amplify, and mimic key signals to unlawfully access vehicles. This trend is particularly prevalent in urban areas, making car theft a matter of seconds rather than minutes.

2022:
A Tipping Point for Vehicle Theft in Canada

  • Ontario saw a 48.3% surge in thefts

  • Quebec experienced a 50% uptick

  • Alberta reported an 18.3% increase

  • Atlantic Canada noted a 34.5% jump
